Peter Blake (b. 1932) was a pioneer of the Pop art movement in Britain in the 1950s and 1960s. His interest in and appropriation of popular culture, as seen in his portraits of movie and pop stars and his re-creations of commercial packaging, predated Warhol. In 1967 he created one of the most famous icons of the era, the cover of The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Here, Natalie Rudd provides a comprehensive account of Blake's wide-ranging and influential oeuvre, one that includes painting, collage, sculpture, and illustration.
