Laurie Simmons. a contemporary American photographer, creates elaborately staged narrative photographs. She comments on popular culture by using dolls in specially constructed enviornments. Populated by housewives, ventriloquists' dummies, and familiar objects in unfamiliar guises, her diverse tableaux are often infused with bittersweet nostalgia yet charged with a diquieting sense of dislocation.
