Grusin and Utt (both: journalism, U. of Memphis) compile 23 essays by US scholars on the role of the media during and after 9/11, some of which were previously published in a special issue of the Newspaper Research Journal, which they edited following the tragedy. Essays analyze the printing of disturbing photos in the aftermath; coverage on TV, in breaking news and rumor control; New York Times reporting; use of websites and editorials; articles on the war efforts; stories on Arab Americans, Afghanistan, and the Patriot Act; and editorial cartoons.
