Ra's Jibal, or the Musandam Peninsula, is a mountainous promontory, the northernmost extremity of the Sutanate of Oman, overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. The governorate of Musandam, as it is officially known, is separated from the rest of Oman by Ra's al Khaimah and Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates. In the Musandam, craggy mountainous peaks, more than 1500 m high are buffered by green farmlands that reach down to the fjords, with their crystal-clear azure waters and spectacular underwater landscapes. The unusual blend of natural habitats that are home to an exceptional diversity of flora and fauna make the area idyllic getaway. All the main villages, incuding Limah, Kumzar, Buka and Khasab are located on the narrow coastal strips. Smaller hamlets huddle together in the heart of the mountains. The habitants, mostly members of the Shihuh tribe , live in these settlements and depend on fishing, subsistence farming and traditional crafts for their livelihood._BOOK JACKET.
