In "The triumph of Alexander the Great," 324 B.C., Alexander the Great (Michael Higgins) decides whether to crush the rebellion or yield to the mutiny of his Macedonian troops. In "The death of Socrates," 399 B.C., Socrates (Barry Jones) explains why he must choose death over life. He must accept his execution because his search for truth would be invalidated should he opt to pay the fine and admit wrongdoing rather than meet his fate. His philosophy of truth would be invalid.
