The leading lady is recovering from a nervous breakdown, another performer is soused on the set, trade unions threaten to walk, shooting must somehow finish before the insurance lapses and a cat needed in a scene can't hit it's mark. Is this any way to make a movie? "Day for night" is Francis Truffaut's sly humorous bouquet to movies and the people who make them.
Academy Awards, 1973: Best foreign language film.
Special features: New featurettes: "Day for night": an appreciation with Truffaut biographer Annette Insdorf; "Day for night": a conversation with Jacqueline Bissett; "La nuit Americaine": The french connection, featuring co-stars Nathalie Baye, Dani and Bernard Menez, and editor Yann Dedet; Truffaut in the USA with Insdorf, actor/producer Bob Balaban and journalist Todd McCarthy; vintage materials: Truffaut: a view from the inside; Cannes Film Festival Truffaut interview; National Society of Film Critics Awards Truffaut interview; theatrical trailer; cast/director/writer film highlights.
