On February 17, 1802, Thomas Jefferson became the third U.S. President after a deadlock vote in the House. The Constitution and role of the electoral college was vague. The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton (Wesley Addy), refuse to vote in favor of Thomas Jefferson (Cameron Prud'homme) who received a majority of the vote. Instead they will vote for Federalist Aaron Burr (Hurd Hatfield). Representative James Bayard (Rusty Lane) convers with Jefferson and ultimately casts the historical deciding vote. On April 12, 1803, The Louisiana Purchase, negotiated by James Monroe (David White) with France added the midwest and much of the west to the United States boundaries.
